Steve Heller

Steve Heller is a highly experienced insurance professional and trusted advisor in the industry. After a successful corporate career that spanned marketing, underwriting, and claims functions, he established RMS LLC (Risk Management Services) in January 2009. Recognizing the need for comprehensive insurance solutions and personalized service, Steven co-founded Heller Kowitz Insurance Advisors in February 2014.

With over 28 years of experience in the insurance industry, Steven has built a reputation for his deep understanding of risk and his ability to help clients select the right coverage. At Heller Kowitz Insurance Advisors, the core belief is centered around educating consumers on the importance of implementing competitive coverage strategies.

Steve believes that the insurance procurement process should encompass both coverage and price considerations. He understands that consumers often prioritize price without fully understanding or being properly informed about their coverage options. With a commitment to educating clients, Steven and his team strive to provide budget-sensitive custom coverage solutions that offer peace of mind.

Steve Heller is a resident of Reisterstown, Maryland, where he shares a home with his wife, Kyra, and their lovable dog, Isabell. In his free time, Steve enjoys immersing himself in nature through hiking and exploring the beautiful landscapes that Maryland has to offer. He also has a passion for music and finds joy in playing various instruments. Attending concerts and live performances is another favorite pastime of his, as he appreciates the power of music to inspire and uplift.

As an avid reader, Steve finds motivation and inspiration in the pages of motivational books. He believes in the power of personal growth and continuously seeks ways to improve himself both personally and professionally.

In the summer of 2022, Steve accomplished an incredible feat by completing the Haute Route through the Swiss Alps. This challenging trek took him from Chamonix to Zermatt, Switzerland, allowing him to witness the breathtaking beauty of the alpine landscapes. This experience showcased Steve’s determination, perseverance, and love for adventure.

Steve and Kyra are also deeply committed to philanthropy and making a positive impact in their community. They oversee the Greenbaum Family Foundation, which supports over one hundred charities annually. Their dedication to giving back and helping those in need is a testament to their generous spirits and their desire to create meaningful change.

Brian Kowitz

Brian Kowitz, originally the founder of Cormalu Inc., is a trusted advisor in the insurance industry with a focus on Life, Disability, and Long-Term Care Insurance. With a specific niche in privately held businesses in the DMV area, Brian specializes in assisting companies with $1M-$50M in revenue and 5-500 employees. He also caters to successful families who value protection and seek a reliable advisor with similar core values. 

With expertise in large life insurance cases, such as key man and buy-sell scenarios, as well as cash accumulation options, Brian offers a range of choices including term, universal life, and whole life insurance. His knowledge extends to navigating long-term care insurance options and demystifying disability offerings.

In February of 2014, Brian joined forces with Steve Heller, founder of RMS (Risk Management Services), to form Heller Kowitz Insurance Advisors. This collaboration expanded their offerings to include commercial and personal property casualty insurance in addition to life, disability, and long-term care insurance. From serving a handful of businesses and families, Heller Kowitz Insurance has grown to serve over 2500 businesses and families, providing comprehensive insurance solutions.

Brian Kowitz is a seasoned entrepreneur with a diverse professional background. Before venturing into the insurance industry, he co-founded Priority Financial Services (PFS) alongside his uncle, Ervin, in 2004. Starting with minimal resources – $20,000, 2 picnic tables, 5 employees, and 3 computers – Brian and his partner worked tirelessly to grow the company. By 2009, PFS had reached an impressive loan volume of $500 million with 150 employees. In March 2011, they successfully sold the company to Northeast Bank.

During his tenure at PFS, Brian gained valuable experience in client management, specifically in the mortgage industry. He skillfully handled individual mortgages for clients while also overseeing the administration of group benefits for the company’s 150 employees. This included managing health and life insurance plans, short and long-term disability coverage, and various payroll functions.

Prior to his insurance and mortgage careers, Brian had a successful six year professional baseball player career; playing for the Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and the Toronto Blue Jays from 1990 to 1996. This experience has allowed him to build a strong network across the country, connecting with professional sports agents, top sports executives, and current/past athletes.

Brian, a talented athlete, attended Jemicy in ’82 before graduating Boys’ Latin High School in ’87. His passion for sports led him to excel in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. Earning a scholarship to Clemson University, Brian’s baseball journey reached new heights. Winning an ACC Championship in ’89, he earned All ACC and Academic All-American honors. In ’90, he was named ACC Player of the Year and received All American honors. A .403 hitter with a 37-game hitting streak, Brian’s skills drew national attention. Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in ’90, he proudly earned a World Series ring in ’95. Despite a career-ending injury, he also played for the Tigers and Blue Jays in ’96. Recognized for his achievements, Brian was inducted into the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame in ’19.

With his extensive background, Brian brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role as an insurance professional. His experience in client services, coupled with his entrepreneurial spirit, enables him to provide exceptional guidance and solutions to clients seeking insurance protection.
Married to Amy Kowitz, he now lives in Reisterstown and cherishes his time with his three wonderful children, Cory, Kenzie, and Lucy.

Jamie Mooney has 20 years of experience in the insurance Industry as a Producer as well as an Account Executive. 
 
Prior to joining Heller Kowitz Insurance Advisors,Jamie was a Producer for 7 years at AssuredPartners. Jamie was a Senior Account Executive at Willis Towers Watson for 13 years where she served as a client facing Property and Casualty insurance consultant for the middle market & large risk management customers.  While at Assured Partners & Willis Towers Watson, she worked with companies in a broad range of industries including Real Estate, Healthcare, Non-Profits, Municipalities and Construction.  
 
As a Producer currently at Heller Kowitz, Jamie conducts a unique, comprehensive, and consultative approach to commercial insurance needs. Her goal is to fully understand your business needs and develop a focused pin point insurance program.
 
Jamie received a Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in 2004. She carries licenses in Property & Casualty and Life & Health.  In addition she earned the Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist designation.

Anne O’Brien

Anne brings a unique perspective to Heller Kowitz – a customer’s perspective. She worked as an office manager for her husband’s manufacturing business and handled the benefits.  She quickly learned how important it is to have a responsible and responsive broker.  When she moved from that job to being a Benefits Consultant she kept that perspective.  Her customer experience is also helping us continually improve our customer service and support. 

Anne is also the President of The Tyanna Barre O’Brien Breast Cancer Foundation, an all-volunteer organization focused on treatment and care of breast cancer patients. The Foundation was created to honor her mother who died of breast cancer in 1990 and it is run by all five O’Brien sisters in three states.

Nick Shultz

Anchored in the Fitness and Wellness industry for over 20 years, starting at Brick Bodies and 15 years out of the 20 as the Director of Fitness for David S Brown Enterprises. Clients ranged from young professionals and the general population to NFL, MLB, PLL, NBA, and collegiate athletes. My concentration was developing corporate and personal relationships to carve a healthy path for individuals and businesses. My love for helping others through an individualized approach that leads them towards a personal goal has always been paramount. I’ve taken that same approach in the insurance industry since becoming licensed in 2023 and joining the Heller Kowitz team.
